Kansas J-1 Waiver Program

Kansas participates in the State 30 (Conrad) J-1 Visa Waiver Program which assists in the recruitment and retention of physicians to practice in communities that lack adequate access to primary health care. The program allows state public health departments to recommend that international medical graduates currently holding J-1 visa status be granted a waiver of the J-1 visa two-year home country residency requirement in return for practicing medicine full-time for a minimum of three years in an "underserved" community. Applications are now being accepted and must be submitted by a health care facility or employer on behalf of a physician with a J-1 visa. Physicians are not able to apply directly to the program. Application information is available at the web site http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/olrh.
