Rural Health Education & Services Hosts Event on Kansas City Campus

The office of Rural Health Education and Services hosted a luncheon and presentation entitled, “Living the Good Life: A Doctor’s Experience in Rural Kansas” by Sara Ragsdale, DO, Fort Scott, Kan., on Friday, April 7. Fifty-five medical students and faculty attended the presentation, as Dr. Ragsdale spoke about her experiences. For more information contact Andrea Ellis at aellis2@kumc.edu.

Rural Health Education and Services hosts Issues in Medicine Dinner

The office of Rural Health Education and Services hosted dinner for KUSM-W students attending the monthly Issues in Medicine seminar. Medical students were invited to eat pizza after the seminar and were given the opportunity to learn more about the services provided through RHES. Kansas Locum Tenens to present at National Rural Health Association Annual Conference

Andrea Ellis will present “A Win-Win Program: Locum Tenens,” at the National Rural Health Association Annual Conference in Reno, Nev., on May 19. The presentation was chosen to be given as a concurrent session at the conference in order to educate others in establishing and operating a similar program and to discuss benefits of a locum tenens program in aiding in recruitment. Rural Health Education and Services Programs to Present at National AHEC Organization Conference

Kansas Recruitment Center, Kansas Bridging Program, and Kansas Career Opportunities programs will be presented during three concurrent sessions at the National AHEC Organization Conference, June 10-14, 2006, in Omaha, Neb. The presentations by RHES staff, Joyce Tibbals, Marinn Rank, Susan Belden, and Andrea Ellis, will focus on the program specifics to increase program awareness and share ideas for implementation and success. Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians Recruitment Fair

Staff representing the Kansas Recruitment Center attended the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians (USAFP) Recruitment Fair in Chicago, Ill., on March 2-4, 2006. Staff shared information about practicing in rural communities in Kansas, and saw increased interest in participants that attended the fair. Newman Career Fair

Kansas Recruitment Center Welcomes Four More Placements!

The Kansas Recruitment Center (KRC) is pleased to announce the placement of Jorge Guillen, MD, family practitioner, at the United Methodist Mexican-American Ministries, Dodge City, Kan. Guillen will begin his practice in July after finishing his residency in McAllen, Tex.

KRC is also happy to announce the placement of Amy Madril, MD, family practitioner, who will begin her practice at Ashley Clinic, Chanute, Kan., this summer after completion of her family practice residency at Wesley Medical Center.

Brandi Bowen, ultrasound technologist, was placed as a result of the efforts of KRC. Brandi began her position with Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital, Ulysses, Kan., in March. She is originally from Summit, Miss.

KRC is also happy to announce its placement of Elizabeth Hineman, MD, family practitioner, with Scott County Hospital, Scott City, Kan. Libby will begin her practice at Scott County Hospital on November 15th after completion of her residency at Baptist Lutheran in Kansas City, Mo.
