Rural Health Education and Services Features a New Look
If you’ve received the latest issue of Kansas Connections or have visited the Rural Health Web site lately, you may have noticed a few changes! In an effort to conform to the University of Kansas identity standards, and to reflect the changes in the rural landscape, Rural Health has revealed a new look! Maximizing Your Recruitment Efforts: From Ideas to Action
Looking for ways to increase your recruitment potential? Rural Health Education and Services is sponsoring a recruitment workshop entitled, "Maximizing Your Recruitment Efforts: From Ideas to Action," for hospital administrators/CEOs, HR managers, and recruitment personnel of health care organizations in rural Kansas.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, at the Grand Prairie Hotel and Convention Center, Hutchinson, Kansas, and will focus on the elements, techniques, and challenges surrounding the recruitment of health care professionals to rural Kansas. 2006 Rural Kansas Photography Contest
The 2006 Rural Kansas Photography Contest is presented by the University of Kansas Medical Center, Rural Health Education and Services. The purpose is to work with Kansans across the state to produce a collection of photographic images to help promote Kansas as a great place for health care providers to live, work, and play. Winning photos will be published and prizes will be awarded. Photographs are due by Saturday, September 30, 2006. Residents and Students! Attend Kansas Career Opportunities at the KU School of Medicine – Wichita, November 9th and join us for a panel discussion, entitled "Scoring with Your Community," designed to allow physicians, medical students, and resident physicians the opportunity to address questions and concerns surrounding the interview process, living in a rural community, etc. The Kansas Recruitment Center will also present "Acing the Interview," a one-hour discussion for students interested in enhancing their interview skills. RHES Welcomes New Staff Member
Laurie Scott has joined Rural Health as the part-time office coordinator. In this role she will be supporting the efforts of the Rural Health through the coordination and management of Rural Health functions. Rural Health Attended KMGMA Conference
Rural Health staff exhibited at the Kansas Medical Group Management Association (KMGMA) conference at the Wichita Marriott, Wichita, Kan. on June 22, and 23, 2006. Exhibiting to clinic managers, this conference provided an opportunity to showcase programs and services offered through the RHES office.

Rural Health Attended AAFP Conference
Rural Health staff exhibited at the American Academy of Family Physicians conference, August 3 – 5, 2006, Kansas City, Kan. A new display was featured, entitled, "The Buzz about Kansas." Rural Health staff visited with residents and medical students to showcase RHES programs and services and shared the buzz about living and working in rural Kansas communities.
KRC Visited Central Kansas
KRC staff visited central Kansas communities, Mankato, Salina, Ellinwood, and Stafford. Kan., in June in an effort to gain a better understanding of the recruiting needs of the health care organizations in that area. The site visits will allow KRC to better match candidates’ needs with a clearer insight to the community and organization opportunities. Rural Health Presents at the National AHECs Organization Conference

Lauren Lambert presented, "Career Fairs: An Invaluable Resource for Recruiting," at the conference on June 13, 2006. This presentation outlined the benefits and successes related to hosting a career fair. For more information, contact Lauren Lambert, llambert2@kumc.edu.
Joyce Tibbals and Marinn Rank presented, "Making the Most of your Recruitment and Retention Efforts," at the conference June 14, 2006. This presentation allowed participants the opportunity to review their current staffing practices and participants were presented new ideas for recruitment and retention efforts.
