Lunch with the Residency Coordinators

Residency coordinators were treated to an appreciation luncheon by the staff of Rural Health Education and Services on Aug. 9, 2007 for all their hard work. Eight coordinators attended the appreciation luncheon at Aunt Hattie's Tea Room in Wichita. Residency coordinators are the liaisons between RHES and the residents. Whether coordinators are scheduling a time for Rural Health staff to visit with residents or distributing materials, all their support of RHES is greatly appreciated.

KMR Gives Physicians an Opportunity to Help Other KS Physicians

Rural Health Education and Services (RHES) has a new program! Kansas Medical Resource (KMR) addresses the shortage of specialists in rural and underserved areas of Kansas by partnering with physicians and hospitals to provide interim medical coverage. When a community needs medical coverage while the local physician takes time off for personal or professional reasons, KMR can assist the community by providing coverage.

KMR provides Kansas physicians the opportunity to help fellow Kansas physicians. Whether a physician has just finished residency training, recently retired or is searching for a new experience, KMR is a resource that connects physicians with a community needing temporary medical coverage.

For more information on KMR go to the KMR Web site at http://ruralhealth.kumc.edu/kmr or contact Andrea Ellis, aellis2@kumc.edu or (913) 588-1228.

KRC Visited Central Kansas

KRC staff visited western Kansas communities in July and August in an effort to gain a better understanding of the recruitment needs for the health care organizations in that area. The site visits will allow KRC to better match candidates’ needs with a clearer insight to the community and organization opportunities. For more information about the Kansas Recruitment Center, contact Lauren Lambert, at llambert2@kumc.edu.

RHES staff goes to Colorado

KRC staff attended the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters annual meeting, August 13 - 15, 2007, Denver, Co. This conference allowed recruiters the opportunity to network and discuss the trends and issues related to recruiting for health care organizations throughout the country. If you would like further information regarding the conference, please contact Lauren Lambert, llambert2@kumc.edu.
